Plymouth: Woman in her 80 dies after incident involving coastguard helicopter landing at a hospital | UK News

A woman in her 80s has died after an incident involving a coastguard helicopter landing at a hospital.

She was among two members of the public who were injured as the helicopter arrived on a helipad at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

The other person continues to be treated for their injuries and remains in hospital.

Devon and Cornwall Police has launched an investigation into what happened, and the woman’s next of kin has been informed.

A Department for Transport spokeswoman said: “Our deepest sympathies go out to those affected by the incident at Derriford Hospital.

“It would be inappropriate to comment while the incident is investigated by Devon and Cornwall Police and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch.”

HM Coastguard has been contacted for a comment.

The helipad was built in 2015 – and according to the Plymouth Herald, it cost £1.75m, with hundreds of patients arriving by air each year.
